West Shore Pet Service has been servicing Langford and Colwood with dog walking and boarding since 2010.
Proudly owned and operated by Shannon Hellyer Gibson. Shannon has a lifetime’s worth of experience with animals, everything from Draft horses to ducks; she’s had experiences with them all. Her primary focus has been with dogs, terriers specifically since 1996.
Shannon began her career with dogs as a dog walker for another company. She learned a great deal about pack management and dog behavior in her 3 yrs. with them. Sidelined by an injury she managed the family hardware stores for 12 years but never lost her love of working with dogs and often boarded the Hardware store’s customer’s dogs. In 2010 Shannon decided to return to her true passion and opened West Shore Pet Service.
Shannon has over 18 years’ experience of dog handling experience. She has attended numerous obedience training classes to improve her dog handling skills; Shannon firmly believes that you learn something new from every dog and every class you take. While most of her experience is with terriers she has experience with all different breeds and all manner of attitudes and temperament.
Shannon is not a certified dog trainer but her lengthy experience with dogs means she will work with your dogs to maintain good manners and improve their obedience skills while out having a well socialized walk. Believing that dogs thrive in a well socialized pack experience she will walk dogs in a manageable group to ensure everyone is comfortable. Our #1 rule is to have a safe fun walking experience.

~ I was delighted to hear that Shannon has started her own Pet service business. Over the five years I have known Shannon as her veterinarian; I have always been impressed with her care and love of her own four-legged companions, and her general “pet sense”. She herself is an extremely responsible pet owner and has a good sense of doggie health and welfare. In addition, Shannon has a wonderful rapport with dogs allowing an equal give and take of respect and trust between her and her K9 friends. I would say that she “has a way” with dogs and it seems to come from her heart. Dogs are “happy” around Shannon. In short, I would trust Shannon to care for my dogs (and that’s saying a lot!) and I wish her every success in her new venture.

~ Shannon has taken care of our dogs for several years as both a walker and for boarding. The change in our dogs behavior …due to Shannon is fabulous. She helped greatly with one of our dogs recovery from surgery. I actually credit her with the recovery as Daisy was still limping with us, but after a stay with Shannon, she no longer limped. Shannon is very intuitive with dogs. Her care is a huge asset to our family. Thank you Shannon!
